Monojit Debnath is currently working as an Additional Professor in the Department of Human Genetics, as well as Adjunct Professor of Department of Clinical Neuroscience in the National Institute of Mental Health And Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), An Institute of National Importance, Bangalore, India. He did his PhD from the University of North Bengal, Darjeeling, West Bengal in the year 2005 and worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Chinese Academy of Science, Kunming for almost two years. Following this, he worked as a Scientist in the National Institute of Biologicals, Noida for two years. He then pursued postdoctoral studies again in the Nobel Laureate Jean Dausset Lab at INSERM (St. Louis Hospital), Paris, France for two years. He joined NIMHANS in the year 2012 as an Assistant Professor. Monojit Debnath was awarded with Gold Medal for securing the first position in M.Sc. examination, University of North Bengal. In addition, he was also awarded with two young scientist awards, including Sudev Bhusan Ghosh Young Scientist Award in the year 2003. He has also received first grade research grant award from China Postdoctoral Science Foundation for the year 2006 and postdoctoral research grant award from Neuropole de Recherche Francilien (NeRF), Paris for the year 2010. He has received a Centre for Excellence in Science, Engineering and Medicine grant award in 2019 from the Department of IT, BT and ST, Govt. of Karnataka to work on neurodevelopmental disorders. His current focus of research is on the immuno-genetical understanding of the Nervous System disorders like Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Guillain Barré Syndrome. He has 60 research publications and is currently involved in 18 research projects, supported by national and international funding agencies. He has successfully guided six PhD. students, two DM (Neurology), one DM (addiction medicine) theses and one M. Phil (Neuroscience) thesis. Currently, six PhD students and two DM (Neurology) students are working in his lab.
