After completing M.Sc in Biotechnology in 2007, Dr. Niraj Rai moved to CCMB, Hyderabad and joined PhD under supervision of Dr. K. Thangaraj & late Dr. Lalji Singh. During my PhD, He worked on human population genetics and application of ancient DNA research in reconstructing the population history of our past. He spent one year (2009-2010) during his PhD at University of Cambridge and became specialised in ancient DNA research. In 2017, he was offered to start an ancient DNA lab at Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP), a research organization of department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, Lucknow. At BSIP, Lucknow, he is heading ancient DNA lab. Recipient of prestigious awards which includes: 1: Young Investigator Award in 2014 by International Society of Applied Biology, Croatia, Europe. 2: Young scientist Award in 2011 by Indian Society of Human Genetics.
